Midwinter Haiku
12 poems from midwinter, 2022
A pair of haiku on the same idea:
--- An earlier sun rises before me—hopping into nests, chickens. - Morning sun already up, chickens already nesting— snow still coats the ground.
The icing of snow has fallen—dark branches rake the thin weak white air.
Television ad repeating—meditating, my mind plays its tunes.
Crackly bulrushes shiver the sound of rainfall in the winter wind.
Horizon inky with sunset over snow—work day blotted up.
All day I visit the doctor—eating, working, showering, sleeping.
Well above freezing— slick snow shining and shrinking, trees drinking deeply.
My serious face observes the sprightly seedlings uncurling fresh leaves.
Gently I porter hungry lady bugs to the aphid-ridden herbs.
The dirt road a rink of cupped slush hard frozen—we errand gingerly.
Sheen of northern sleet— coated winter clings despite sun's daily increase.
