July
Chores in dawn’s light— the cool, dewy garden air shared with mosquitos.
At Dusk
Power outage—stars above the glittering hay field full of fireflies.
Community
Power outage—in hardship, so many hands bring water to my house.
Taste of Spring
Sweet peas, just briefly sauteed in butter—mouthful of spring paired with steak.
Weeding Discovery
In the shade below the dry beans, grown for winter, the toad’s summer home.
Recently brother and his family came to visit, which gave me the opportunity to spend lots of time with my nieces and nephews—something that always fills me with joy. It was a lovely time, and it inspired several of the following poems.

Reunion
Globs of bubbles float briefly around the family circle, young and old.
Toddler at the Coffee Table
With concentration, one by one he delivers each book to his aunt.
Pool Time
A morning forest filled with song—the pool sloshing with playtime music.
Garlic Harvest
Forty of them, grimed from their sojourn and curing— garlic, planted first.
Lesson
Wearing netting, still the mosquito’s whispers teach the need for patience.
Blueberry Picking
The best berries wait plump and dark at the deepest center of the row.
